Best Non-ethanol Octane for 2-Stroke Merc Pro XS

    Hey guys,
I’ve got a ‘12 Mercury Pro XS and want to find out what’s recommended for the best performance for this engine. In the 4 years I’ve owned it I’ve always run non-ethanol with the recommended “cocktail” and 87 octane. I called Mercury and received the blanket statement that it is engineered for 87 or higher. I’ve found other information that states anything higher that 87 creates carbon deposits if you idle most of your time on the water. I have all levels of ethanol free available and don’t mind spending the extra money on higher octane if it provides and longer life and better performance year round.

Thanks in in advance and tight lines!

Don't over think it, just get the 87.

I have likely read same statements suggesting 90 or higher creates deposits. I gave up and use 87 with Ethanol. Motor was made for it. I do use the merc 1 and 2 additives

I run 91, it's the only ethanol free I have access to. MMO, marine sta-bil and seafoam are my additives of choice.

Do you need to even use a stabilizer if using non-ethanol gas?

Don Weed has stated and I agree that it is more imporatant to have the right octane rather than no ethanol. All I have burned for over 10 years now is 87 with ethanol. Once I had the right fuel lines, I have had no issues running 87 with 10% ethanol.
