    2003 225 EFI (Tachometer stopped)

    Good afternoon Mercury fans!
I just purchased my first Mercury motor. During the first fishing trip the tachometer stopped working.

The first time I took the boat out I thought the motor was spinning too fast or the tach was not reading correctly. It's a 20 foot skeeter with a 25 temptest prop. Either the prop is too small or the tach was not accurate. It was ripping past 5500 RPM like crazy. So the tach may have been off?

I am not familiar with these motors. What is the first couple items I should check?

Take the tach out, look on the back and you will see a small dial, make a note on what number its on. now turn it back and forth a couple of times. Put it back on the number it was on. Now try it again.

I do not trust the accuracy of the tach, but it is working. There is a main power switch for the gauges. I just assumed it would be on the key.
