Years back I made one out of 3/8 SS cable and links. Glad that I never had to put it to test.

Long hauls I use a strap to the trailer. Every day use only the winch

Life is kinda hard but it's
better than the other options .. er ..option !
I have a short length of chain that goes on my bow ring along with the Fulton Winch strap. Out back there is a normal transom hold down on each eye to the trailer. My boat stays put, and I don’t want to test it like I see in those pictures, but I’m definitely going to do all I can to keep it on the trailer!
My brother was towing his Pantera II when he went through the ditch on the interstate, through oncoming traffic and into a ditch on the other side when he passed out from an unknown heart condition. Boat and trailer came off at the ball and snapped the chains but the boat stayed on the trailer 100%!
You can’t prepare for those kinds of forces, but you can do everything possible to keep your boat on your truck and safe. The kinds of stuff that happens during accidents puts crazy forces on all sorts of areas of your trailer, boat, and truck. Prepare for what you can control.

See alot of trailers that dont run anything at all other than the winch strap. My cousins old basscat was that way.
