Asking for a friend. He has a 135 Optimax and his overheat alarm keeps coming on. Engine has good water pressure and is peeing a good stream. It will usually stay in limp mode but sometimes will allow him to open it up and run fine. There isn't anything stuck in the intake either. The alarm tone is a constant beep, no intermittent tone. Has anyone experienced this?

The alarm may NOT be for over heat. There are a number of other possibilities. Get the engine to a good Merc dealer ASAP for proper diagnosis. Do not continue to operate the engine in this condition.

Solid tone is a CRITICAL alarm do not run engine until resolved and as stated above could be many things. Beyond that, please have your friend sign up and post engine serial# (required) in the 2.5L section (what his engine is).
