    Cougar setup question

I am upgrading to a 250 Pro XS two stroke with torqmaster II
I would like to hear from those that have experiance on setup for a 03 Cougar about 1450 lb hull. No poles but usually a heavier load than most
I have a 25 and a 26 Fury props reworked by Ronnie Gilbert that are great on my old 225 Optimax depending on conditions 5650 to 5750 RPM, Prop slip 8 to 10 percent depending on conditions and load.
I understand they like more setback for better performance, how much
    Prop to pad???
Is it possible this unit may get down in the range of 6 % slip as many are claiming

    Thanks to all Leon Pugh

I run a 25 Fury 3 in the summer and a 26 in the winter. Run the props you have.

We would suggest a 25 Fury on most of this style application. Though it’s grey area as the newer engine on a 2003 model has a wide range of variables.

I am running 03 mercury 250xs which seems to be the reason I require a 27 pitch prop.

I have an 04 cougar with same year 225 optimax. It came with a 25 tempest. Tried a 26 trophy, then the 25 fury 3. The 25 fury 3 has been my best all around performer. Just got in a 25 fury 4 that I will be trying this weekend. The fury 3 has been good, just looking for a little more lift.

Sorry, that was directed at Westbank and he’s got an older XS engines apparently and that’s entirely different from current production. The engines do change over time and gearcases are a major difference also. There have been three (3) cases on the Pro XS engine series. Let alone horsepower and torque changes over time. There is no one size fits all method everyone is looking offor like the Lone Rangers silver bullet.

Well I did get some of my answers. Installed the motor Saturday and tested early Sunday.
Ran 76.6 at 5870 with the 25 Fury P to P set at 3 1/4 at 6% prop slip . 450 lbs. occupants, 30 gallons of fuel. May be more room to lift the motor a little more
Wind came up to hard more testing
    Thank You Leon Pugh
