1995 Mercury 115 outboard would not per questions

    He guys,

i ran in some shallow water and sucked a bunch of mud up. My outboard quit peeing. It’s a 1995 Mercury 115. I cleaned the pee hole and a bunch of nasty thick mud ran out. I then put muffs on it and started it up. After a bit it finally started peeing. But not like it does when in the lake. Is there a way to flush the actual line out like you can on the newer models? Backflush it I guess? Also, when I had the muffs on it air was coming out of it at first. Then it spit the nasty funk out and started peeing clean water. Am I ok now? I need input. I imagine it wouldn’t perform like it would when the motor is actually in the lake instead of using muffs. Or am I wrong?

    Thanks

You may take the thermostat out and clean it. It may have mud in it. It should wash out with the muffs on it. Good luck

Disconnect the telltale hose at the ENGINE, and blow backwards through the fitting to clear out any mud/debris.

Based on your description, it would be wise to plan to replace the water pump (all that trash came through the pump).
