    THE END

mercury marine's new V8 just ended life for all other outboards in their current form for the bass boat market.
    G2 is done. no hope.
Yamaha can recover if they get rid of the bathtub cowl.

You can't power a bass boat with an unfilled order receipt.

further proves my point...no one wants anything else.
I told my rep 8 years ago what they should build.
it will take at least 3 years for other manufacturers to catch up.

Why did they make it a v8 when the same power can be made in a v6 with less moving parts and less expense? Anyone know?

It's only taken them since 09 to catch up to the SHO. It sure ain't ending any other brands.

For a V-8 to make the same power it takes less work so it should last longer. Plus the V-8 is the same weight as the SHO V-6 that's saying something. Not sure I agree with the OP about it being the end of all other outboards though.

Not bashing this new Mercury motor but I find it's funny how it was only a few years ago or less that people on this same site were saying that a four stroke would never compete with two strokes and the Pro XS was better than any four stroke. I believe we also heard that Mercury would not go to four strokes because of how popular the Pro XS was. Now Mercury comes out with this new motor and all other motors are obsolete? I guess I will have to live with my poor SHO until I can re-power.

The torque on the V8 is unreal. No one had any idea you could get a V8 down in weight to what they have now. There ain't a 2 stroke left that can compete in power smoothness and sound. There isn't another 4 stroke either.

I like the SHO looks myself and mine is 8 years old and runs great BUT I will not knock another brand that I don't own . Do you think Mercury will pee on you if you were on fire unless you had a check in your hand to buy a new motor .

I own a pro xs 250, but I'm going to say the g2's aren't going anywhere for a while with a ten year warranty!

Well their marketing is working! Every new motor is “the best ever”. I do agree that the look, sound, and weight of the new Mercury line is quite unreal, I’ve watched some videos over and over just because it’s so cool! The pendulum swings both ways, if you can’t supply motors people will not wait a year! They will get another high end motor and be pissed at Mercury and swear to never buy one again...

Ha ha, that bathtub cowl looks way better than Mercurys' mohawk cowl.

I had the pleasure of seeing one on a new Z21 Nitro yesterday at the lake. I also have a Z21 Nitro but with a Pro XS. It sounded great as he passed me and I was doing 68mph (gps). I was WOT to.

I am a mercury fan and own a fourstroke but how on earth is mercury introducing a new motor going to all of a sudden make proven motors die? Nothing wrong with the yammie except for the fact that is made overseas.

What does the shape of a cowl have to do with anything?
