Did you remove the rod guides in your rod box?

Considering it to make more room, but the boat's only 5 months old and hate to regret taking it apart...

I took mine out several years ago, and wouldn’t put it back for anything.

I have too many rods anyway so the rod guides help me keep them at a minimum, so keeping the rod guides for now.

Take it out and use rod socks. I carry about 25-30 rods now. Makes life easier

If you take them out, put silicone in the screw holes.

Removed mine out of every BCB I have owned. Use rod socks and you can load up a ton of rods.

Bought my 2018 PII in March. I took the rod tubes out before I placed anything in my new boat. I have 20 rods in there with rod socks and have room to spare. I say give it a try. You can always put them back in.

You can always reinstall the rod tubes if needed.
I found that the rod guides took a beating with the rod tubes even with rod socks

Covering the drilled out holes prevents water from getting into the layers of fiberglass.

I could never even consider doing that in my boat, Puma. Rod box's fill will fill with water. And no its not caused by the lid seals or handles. The water is coming in from the front and bottom of the rod box's.

I took my rod tubes out of the Sabre FTD years ago, and started using TRC rod covers. It just works better for me. I put a couple of short SS bolts with nylock nuts with silicone under them in the holes after flooding my carpet, and the rod box.

THIS!!! Screw with rubber washer and small dab of silicone keeps the water out.
I have not had any water in my rod lockers of my 2011 Sabre FTD, 2014 Eyra, or my 2016 PII. Only my 98 Jag had an issue and it was the old Perko latch handles.
Replaced them and no water leaks.
Besides, If I am fishing in the rain, all my rods on the deck are getting soaked anyways.

I put my rod tubes back in my 2011 PII when I bought it. It organizes 9 or my most used rods and there is room underneath that can hold another 6 or so loose. More than enough for me.
