    Z21 trailer brakes

thinking about getting into a 2019 z21 pro package. Do i need to get the optional brakes? It comes with surge brakes and every other boat I've had, i ended up disconnecting them. My F150 has never had an issue pulling or stopping while pulling a 20footer. what do you recommend?

The trailer will come standard with surge brakes on one axle with the option to get brakes on the second axle. The package will weigh over 4000 pounds according to the website before you add your stuff. Your truck is probably in the 6000 to 7000 pound range. If you defeat the brakes on the trailer you are asking your truck to stop around 10 to 11K pounds. Not something I would want to do. In fact, I would opt for the brakes on the second axle. I pull my Z19 with a 2017 F350 dually diesel but still appreciate the braking assist I get from the trailer's surge brakes.

Don't understand disconnecting something that is available to assist you in stopping a 4000 pound mass hooked to your truck. If you are pullig a 14ft aluminum boat I would understand. With the way people drive around this country when it comes to semi's, much less a guy pulling his $60k boat, I want all the help I can get. The single axle brakes go a long way to helping you shutdown that rig in a hurry. Can you do without them, yes. But why? My trailer brakes have helped me on multiple occasions.

Not sure why you would disconnect the brakes but maybe I am missing something, I actually added the second set option.

Brakes arent optional. The 2nd axle brakes are. I dont think u will have an issue.

My f250 would not have a problem stopping my boat. But in wet conditions and u need to stop fast. Im glad i have em.
