    1995 200 xri

    OG130941 1995 200 xri

    Motor falls flat on it's face as soon as you stab the throttle and it may or may not pick up...once it does it will run hard and then all of a sudden tach drops out and motor falls on it's face again and then it may pick back up and tach may or may not work. This a new to me boat and motor....looking things over looks like new CDI regulators and new stator...did compression check and was 115 - 120 across the board with closed throttle. Thanks..

    Idle stabilizer and detention box are still hooked up.

    Bulb stay stiff? Sounds like it is ducking air into the fuel lines.

    Yup bulb stays hard or stiff...it happens when tach falls to zero then a few seconds later high speed cuts out..

    check fuse connector on engine and all other connections sound like its loosing 12v to engine harness, also check key switch connections

    It seems that previous owner was chasing this same problem as I have noticed new coils also and I think previous owner said a few injectors had been changed.. picture of plugs I pulled out number 2 and 5 where the wettest.

    diaphragm fuel pump looks like it has been rebuilt....im going in behind a certified mercury marine mechanic that has worked on this motor before i got it.

    Looks like bad switch box for 2 4 6...voltage is way off..

    Question since the detonation box and idle stabilizer are tied into #2 coil would that cause a no spark or miss fire on all 3 cylinders.?

    possible , disconnect both and retest make a jumper between boxes for blk white check stator also/ certified scares me sometimes

    Stator voltage good on all wires feeding switch boxes....voltage coming out of switch seems good till i get to the coil wire on the left bank then the readings go to south. I put new spark plugs in today and ran for a bit on muffs and pulled 2 plugs out # 2 # 4 and pulled number 1 out of other bank and plugs #2 #4 look nice and shinny while plug #1 was starting to change color. See how dark first plug is compared to other 2..

    Took both boxes off, idle stabilizer and detonation box off, put jumper between the 2 switch boxes bias, anything else i need to do besides check timing...?

    no sir, retest voltage ,had one yester day , coil shorted to grnd, when checked with dva showed low volt on green wire coming out of box, youd think bad box , wrong bad coil , volts were about 30 off on that cyl only

    Retested stator and switch boxes and here are the results

    Outer box first stator to box

    red wire idle 56 3,000 rpm 240

    black yellow 210 idle 280 3,000

    blue wire 210 idle 250 3,000

    white black 10.5 idle 29 3,000


    Inner switch box

    red 75 idle 280 2 3,000

    black yellow 210 idle 280 3,000

    blue 210 idle 280 3,000

    white black 8.30 idle 24 3,000


    Switch box it's self to coils

    outer box first

    green idle 150 90@ 3,000 rpm

    green white 170 idle 175 3,000

    white this one has w white wire on bottom..180 idle 160 3,000

    Inner switch box

    green red 186 idle 225 3,000

    gr/white 180 idle 225 3,000

    green 185 idle 235 3,000

    so there are my readings at this time....would like opinions.

    Have you eliminated the simple stuff like verifying no water has gotten into the fuel system.

    It does have a fuel water separator on it since it fuel injected, but if you look at numbers i have 1 switch box cutting out.

    90 too low on outer box at 3000, you could swap boxes and too if low volts follow box

    Would voltage regulators cause that one to drop low?

    Just swapped outer box with inner box and inner box with outer box...so the testing begins and getting wet..

    When you remove detonation box do you need to ground gray black wire that goes back to computer?
