Nothing beats upland hunting with a bird dog. Wish I was with you. I have two Drahthaar's.

Seeing many birds? I heard the drought really has numbers down.

I hunted from the Canadian border down to Ekalaka. Birds were spotty. Two years of drought plus a harsh winter have dramatically lowered Sharptail populations. This year there were substantial rains and maybe next year. My best area had a good hatch and then two hailstorms ruined it. Where there was heavy tree row cover, pheasant populations were good. The CRP ground, not so good. I killed one Sharptail for each of my four dogs, and shot in the air for the rest of the points. I found several robust coveys of Huns, but they were few and far between. As always, I enjoyed my time on the Great Plains. Lots of birds, few bird, I’ll take some dogs out there until I can’t walk anymore.

Yes I was. I stayed in Culbertson up north and Baker down south. I love your part of the country, and the people who live there are super. A few years ago during the boom, I had a woman in Baker apologize to me. She said I probably needed to lock my truck, because there had been a break in the week before.
