What .308 round do you use for Deer

This will be my first year using a .308 for deer.Bought a box of Remington Core Lokt 150gr. Which was recommended by a buddy.Anything else worth trying.

What ranges ? normal woods out to around 200 theyd be fine as long as they zero well. Standard winchester or federal fusion, 150-165 gr bullets. Pick a couple see which ones group best.
Now if you are field hunting and getting extreme on ranges like 3-400 yard some of the more expensive ballistic tip type bullets may be worth spending money on. 308 is a pretty big round, and deer arnt all that hard to drop if shot placement is good.
Dont get me wrong your Remingtons will kill deer dead a long long ways off,, Just thnk as ranges increase, you might get a bit better long range accuracy with premium bullets, Although they are probably twice the price. Probably better off buyign twice as many Remingtons and practicing.

150 CorLokts will work just fine on deer. I reload my own and would use 150gr Hornady Interlock SPs. If those CLs shoot well in your rifle, use them and do not look back.

These are my thoughts as well. I like basic Hornady and Sierra bullets for most deer cartridges. CoreLokts would probably be my preference but they are not as easy to find for a good price for handloaders.

    I think 150gr for 300 savage and 308 but prefer 165gr for the 06.

Deer are thin skinned, not that big, and don't require a premium controlled expansion bullet. The Core-Lokts are a good choice and will work fine.

I've used the 150 grain core-lokts in 30-06 and .308 for 45 years for deer, haven't had one complain about it's effect yet.

I use the Winchester 168 grain Ballistic Silver Tips but any decent cup and core bullet will work just fine on deer. I also do some reloading and when I run out of the Winchesters. I will just load up some 165 Speer Hot Cor or some Sierra Game Kings at some moderate pressures. It don't take a heck of a lot to kill a whitetail.

I shoot the super performance sst 165s out of my BAR.... fantastic results..my only complaint with the core lokt bulletsare they aren't as forgiving if and when you do make a bad shot...the damage isn't as much as say the sst....I taken a bunch thru the years with the core lokts...but if you miss that spot the controlled expansion of the CL is sometimes a bad thing as it doesn't have that intitial explosion like some other bullets..

A buddy of mine swears by Core-Lokts for deer in his .308. He's taken several with them.

I've tried a few other bullets in .30/30 and .270 and always came back to Core-Lokt. Like others said, deer aren't hard to kill. As far as flat shooting and all that, shooting deer at 200 yards isn't fun for me so I have no need for the utmost in long range performance.

    Gun? Barrel length?
I load, several heads in my .308 for a model 7. It likes speer hot point Spitzer 150 as my deer round. Nozler shoot well too, but keep going back to speer.

The Remington Core-Lokt 150gr is shooting tight groups in my .308 Savage 11 pro hunter.I am going to shoot a box of Hornady American Whitetail 150 gr. To see how they group.

For my woods rifle in .308 I load 36 gr. 3031 powder and a 170 gr. 30-30 bullet. the 30-30 bullet expands easily at that speed with devastating results. More speed than a 30-30 and less recoil than a .308. Have taken large northern deer and it flat puts the hammer on them.

I give another vote for 150 grain Corelock. That's what my wife uses and inside 200 yards you don't want to piss her off.

Looks like I will be using Hornady American WT 150 gr. For deer season this year.its shooting better groups than the Remington Core-lokt 150's.
