    Wind protected?

Any smaller lakes relatively close to St. Claire to fish when the wind is too much on the big lake?

There are a lot of inland lakes in oakland county that can be good fishing this time of year and you can fish the rivers. Cass Lake, Orchard Lake, Union Lake, and White Lake can be good this time of year.

Lake Orion is good when the wind blows. Lots of places to hide out of the wind and pretty good fishing too.

Still a little jog to those Oakland county lakes, but I agree with the ones mentioned above. Orion and White probably a little better for getting out of the wind than the others mentioned. Orchard does have that island that breaks things up a little. Union lake is probably your best bet if you still want to catch smallmouth! Cass has good smallmouth too. Don't rule out Sylvan lake behind Cass. Have caught smallmouth and largemouth from there also. Tight lines
