Iowa was once a destination for pheasant hunters. It was right up there with Kansas South Dakota and Nebraska. Sadly loss of Habitat has taken its toll.

As far as quail go, burning is actually healthy for quail if done every 3 years on a rotational basis. Lack of proper habitat and fescue was two of the biggest things affecting quail. Now in Texas and Oklahoma they say eye worms are taking their toll on birds. Past few years Texas and Oklahoma had banner years for quail. But they say the eye worms are killing them off.

Here in Kansas we had quite a few years of outstanding quail hunting. Word got out and the quail suffered. Last year I saw more quail hunters here than ever and also more right up until the season ended than ever before.
