How can you tell what model a particular boat is?

Maybe by the number decals on the boat near the Champion decal

Many older Mountain Home Champs never had them. I'm surprised there was never some kind of visible markings with model on those Champs. It's a good thing we have experts that go back a long time that know what they look like.

But to answer your question, a length measurement, Max HP rating, and a few pics usually give experts enough info to id the unknown models.

What dimensions and pics do y'all need? Max hp is a 300. I was told it was a 203 when I bought it, but it's weird because it's insured as a 202. I'm ordering decals and want to be sure.

Most likely a 203 elite. Was also a 206 in that year model.

What is the beam at the widest point...and what does your title/sales papers say?

I just checked the 2003 brochure. In 2003 a 203 was in the CX series...not the Elite series. There was no 202 that year....

What is the passenger grab handle made of?

    Gotta dig out the title.

    Widest beam is about 88"

dual console, passenger handle is rope dipped in rubber.

It's a CX series 203. Champion actually measured that as 20'3" long and 90" beam. I wish I had asked them to show me how they measured length when I was at the Dealer Meetings. The beam is measured from outside gunnel across to outside gunnel. Probably from the widest area behind passenger and driver seats. Don't quote me on that unless Matt confirms...LOL!

1998, how long is it? Motor rating on the coast guard sticker?

I know it’s a 202. I’m just wondering if it’s elite or something special. Also I read where it was better if it was built from a certain plant.

Best thing you can do is to tap on the transom and see if it sounds hollow or solid, tap all around, esp by the tie downs. Tilt the motor up and try pressing down really hard on the motor, see if the transom flexes at all. I’ve even heard of guys standing on the cavitation plate trying to make the transom flex.

Other than that it’s your call on the situation. You have any pics?

Elite didn’t mean a whole lot, just a few upgrades. Plant didn’t matter too much, except to a few guys. Some like the skinny champs and some of us like the wide body champs.

In 1998, the 202 came in two models...the Fish and Ski and the Tournament. It was not in the Elite Series. All Champs of that era were built in Mountain Home, Arkansas.
