There is no best. Kinda Ford/Chevy to me. Some are better at one thing and others are better at another. If someone could takes the strengths of all reels and make one then you would have the best. They all make good reels and all have a good better best. To me it comes down to customer service and product and parts availability. But, from what I have seen in the last few years, you could get great customer service from a particular company one day and get horrible service the next. As for me I have a mix of Abu and Diawa. I try to run a mid range reel $150-250. Then try one and if I like it I keep on the look out for ones on sale. I just bought 4 diawa ct type r's left hand in 8.1 ratio for $80 a piece last month on ebay. Good luck!!!

I'll get laughed at but the best bang for buck I have found is at the BPS spring fishing classic every year. You can get the Carbonlite 2.0 rod/reel combos for half price making it 125 bucks, best setup I have found for the money.
Daiwas got some strong lines in the $100 range. The new Tat100 is supposed to be quite the reel.
Shimano is making the best reels and have been for a while. Daiwa and Abu Garcia are not far behind.
I've been with Shimano for over 20 years, zero issues...

Daiwa and Shimano are simply the best. If you were unhappy with Shimano try Daiwa. Something like a Tatula CT would be a nice way to get your feet wet.
I've owned Bass Pro, Abu Garcia, Shimano, Quantum and Daiwa. All I have been buying now is the Daiwa Tatula line and will continue to buy more Daiwas to replace the other brand reels I own when they wear out.

I have been using Lews for a while now and been pleased and not so pleased.
Lews buys reels under contract from the lowest bidder and sells them under their name. They don't keep the same model too long. I've got some older Team Lews that I like a lot Similar to this one.

They quit making these and I've tried a couple of their newer ones but not impressed with them.
I tried one of these and it's worked well. I almost like it as well or slightly better than my older Team Lews.

If you are used to Shimano quality, and no longer want to use them but do not want to lose that quality, then Daiwa is your answer.

Diehard shimano since the 70s SG10 reel. Bought 6 Tatulas, son has ABU and lews. I will say they all function well. I will say there's alot of hype on the Tatula on the BBC. They are kinda toyish, and there a bit of play in the handle anti reverse. They cast well, but nothing different than my other brands. I pulled my curado out and it being several years older still felt tight (grey one). The Lews pro my son has is also tight, nice reel. His ABU reels are nice also.
My choice would be the Lews, since shimano has let you down.

I too give Lew's a vote.
I have a couple of 13’s and they have held up well. 2 A’s and a C. Not much on their spinning reels though after using one for a while.
