thumb bar problem on Shimano Curado 200E7

Lately I have noticed that the thumb bar is very hard to press down to allow the spool to spin. It's still working, but there are times where I almost have to use both thumbs to push it down to get it to disengage. I take my reels apart and clean and grease/oil them each winter, so when I have it apart this winter, what should I look for or replace so that it's back to working like normal again? Thanks!

When you take it apart. look at the metal piece that the thumb bar rides on. They are known to bend down in a sense. So with the angled aspect of it, it creates excess friction points. I tend to bend that tab up a bit to straighten it back out.

Thanks for the help! I'll check the 3 items mentioned when I tear it down to clean it. Dan, if I need a new pinion gear and/or pinion bearing, do you have those available for purchase?

You should only need the pinion bearing as you polish the gear itself. Dan

And what real reel tech wouldnt have a pinion bearing in stock? Lol. I stock all common reel bearings at all times to cover any situation.

Nobody in this post said they didn't have the bearing. Assuming you're passively taking a shot at ReelEx again for some reason, he said he only stocks parts for in house use...i.e he doesn't sell his parts to people.

I don't know why Dan doesn't sell them. I'm sure he has his reasons. Ask him.

You run your business your way and I'll run my business my way. I don't do this just for the money and I do not have the time to RETAIL parts. I guarantee 4 day turnaround so time is the defining
factor as is the cost to stock enough product to sell RETAIL. I currently stock 50+ skus
in bearings at a value in excess of nearly $8k.
I'm a small business and prefer it that way so I'm sorry if that disappoints.
Always willing to criticize LM, and offer your "expertise". Why dont you step up and sponsor this page in order to do so instead of doing so at the cost of others? Just a thought? Dan

Large Mouth is good about criticizing anyone who works on reels other than himself. Mostly true experts who work on reel for an honest living.

I criticize for "common sense". And you are not gonna make a "living" working on reels.

Amazing is all I can say. I've been doing this FULL-TIME for 11 years now for myself, and 23 in total. ReelEx is a full service provider, not just a tinkerer of "bass stuff". I service Shimano's full line up of reels including Tiagra, and I have full factory support. The only reel I no longer work on is the old bait runner.

So, if you one has the mind to, one can make a very nice living, your just gonna work your arse off doing so. Dan
