Carfax..either the dealer didn't report OR Carfax let someone delete info

I went and looked at the Carfax info on the Ridgeline I turned in early with my lease for the Tundra last month. It is sitting on a Toyota lot with the "free" Carfax. They had the lease part and one owner correct. The Carfax only showed one oil change, the very last one I had done. It did NOT show all the warranty work I had done, nor the other oil changes. All the work was done at my local Honda/Ford dealer. My only conclusion is either the dealer was not informing Carfax OR Carfax let the selling dealer take info off. Either way why pay 30.00 for a report on a pre-owned car?

I've paid the 30.00 several times over the years. Guess from now on I'll save my dollars.

In this case it was selective reporting by one dealer, OR someone took info off. It appears to be selective reporting.

Only thing that consistently gets reported it titlings and professional accident repairs involving insurance payment. Lots of repairs go unreported where the owner or responsible party paid cash.

Wouldn't the info showing 'proper maintenance' be an asset when listing?

Carfax is a joke, I had a 2016 F350 platinum and tboned a group of girls that pulled out in front of me. Luckily i jerked the wheel just enough to miss the cab of the small car and drive over the hood. It bent my frame, broke steering box, radius arms, shock mounts, wheel, and ended up with 21k in damage. Before i traded it in I ran my carfax and it showed the police report which reported minor right front damage involving flat tire - towed from scene.

Car fax offers LE access to their databases in exchange for uploading collision information.

Toyota only reported the maintenance that was done to my tundra. They did not report warranty work or any major repairs. Goodyear did the same. The truck was hit 4 times. All minor. It was parked or not moving all 4 times. Carfax had every accident listed but no mention of how minor the damage was.

Yep, wife bought a car with 15k miles on it, Carfax showed to be clean. Well a year later she rear ends a kid that cut in front of her, take the car to the shop and then he calls and tells us that it had the bumper replaced before; because they only had 1 of the bolts holding it on.

What does this have to do with the validity of Carfax?

Car fax is a joke! Selective reporting and unknown interpretation hurts, example my banker wouldn't lend a prior customer money because there were 34 Carfax hits on it, could have been oilchainges and tire rotated with some other recall stops... ps I'm pretty sure it's car fax selling my phone number to the malicious telemarketers... when I go to get service my calls go way up, when I'm not in for service for 5 months they are almost non existent ... chew on that

My SiL went to trade her 2010 Jeep Wrangler in a few months back for a new Ford Explorer. Dealership ran CarFax and it showed the Jeep had been in a bad accident. She was shocked as she bought it new and has never been in a wreck.

She contacted CarFax, come to find out it was the wrong VIN inputed for the accident. She had to got to the DMV and get some paperwork sorted and sent to CarFax.

    CarFax is a joke.

Methinks Carfax is not regulated. Nobody likes regulations. Lack of regulation breeds corruption. Let the buyer beware. Lipstick on a pig.
