180vs with 150 optimax. prop question

Hey guys.

I have a 2004 reata 180vs with a 150 merc optimax.

I'm only getting 5100 at wot fully trimming up. Roughly 50mph using cell phone GPS.

Motor has a 21p tempest plus.

I know theres countless threads out there but fromal that I've seen I should be turning more then 5100.


Anyone else on here with an identical boat like mine and same motor can report back to me on their setup


My motor is transom mounted on 2nd hole from top

Pad height is 6"

I'm no prop guru, but sounds like the motor needs to be lifted out of the water. I'm thinking your prop is decent, a jackplate will probably help your cause. I'm sure guys will chim in soon with better advice.

Thanks... I've read countless threads and prop selection is all over the place.

Just not sure what I should compare mine too.

Was looking at jack plates just not liking the fact I'll have to pay a shop to install it unless I buy the tool to list the motor

Not sure about your neck of the woods, but you may be able to rent an engine lift.

I got a lift I should be able to use. I am going to see how much the lifting eye is for this motor though.


I may try and find a Manual jack plate for a good price and see how that does.

You can rent one or look for a used one. You can always sell it again after you are finished with it.
