Setback question on my 03 Cougar

    have a 2003 Cougar and it has a 03 225EFI Merc
the boat runs great but I have a question on it.
it has a 6" Slidemaster Jackplate on it now.

is this the recommended setback from Bass Cat?
I thought it was 8" but wasn't sure.

I have a set of 2" Spacers I could use to get to 8" but wanted to ask first and see what opinions are from the ones in the know

I know my 17 Cougar has an 8 inch setback jackplate standard. But I probably shouldn't assume an 03 is the same. BassCat will know for sure.

I think they went from 6" to 8" due to the seastar cylinder clearance issue. Can't say when they made this switch, BCB will have to answer. My 08 classic uses the 8" slide master.

It was for clearance on the new steering cylinders.

We do not suggest over and 8".

    thanks for the info.
does anyone see any reason that I shouldn't use the 2" spacers I have?

I have a 03 Cougar as well. They have a lot of setback built in to the hull already. I don't think you will find any benefit to adding 2 in more. You may develop other issues like porpising in high speed turns, more bow lift during hole shot etc.
I used to have a 97 PII that was a rocket and drove like dream, had a hopped up 3.0 on it. I added 2in spacers and went from no chine walk to not drivable above 70
    Thank You Leon Pugh
