Oil leak in 2000 225 optimax

    225 optimax sn OTO19488 mn 1225473WE

Have noticed a small oil leak from under the cowling the last couple of trips out. No change in engine performance and it is only oil no gas at all. No alarms and I can see no loose hoses. Have had the engine on hose and can see no leak. The oil seems to be coming from starboard side but again hard to tell if that is just where it is going. Use mercury DIF only. Just trying to save a trip to the shop.

    Thank you

Oil pump. You will usually see oil on one of the allen screws in front of oil pump.

An Oil Pump Prime Sequence needs to be run on the Computer Diagnostic System after replacement. VERY Important.

Dang they are proud of those pumps. I saw 600 dollars plus on another post and dang they where right on. So will this make the engine run double oil or a time after the new pump?

Not if you go to the Dealer and have a "Oil Pump Prime Sequence " performed.

Ok had this done and had a quick question. I had a rough idle that I have been dealing with since I got the motor. Was thinking it was a fuel rail issue, but since the new oil pump seems to be idleing a lot better. Is there any way a failing oil pump could cause the rough idle??????

You probably have one or more chipped reeds. When I had 2000 Opti 225 on my boat, I replaced the metal reeds with TDR composite reeds from European Marine. They run much better and eliminate the possibility of ruining the engine from piece of metal reed going through cylinder.

Going to replace reeds this winter. The engine only had 60 hours on it and had sat for a long time before I got it this spring. With the new oil pump almost everything besides the injectors and fuel rail is new. I have put 10 hours on motor non ethanol gas with Dons cocktail in every tank and only DFI oil. Maybe she is starting to like being treated right. :) :)
