    Hubbard Lake early Oct?

Myself and a few buds are thinking about checking out Hubbard for the first time. Any recommendations on places to stay (Thurs-Sun)? What’s the water clarity/color like? Big smallie patterns? Thanks in advance for any tips or recommendations!

We just held a club tourney up there a few weeks back. We stayed at the Hubbard Lake Motor Lodge. It’s definitely not the nicest place but it’s cheap and just a couple blocks from the north end ramp and a decent pub. That said, I would highly recommend the Dew Drop Inn up in Alpena. It’s about the same cost, a 20-25min drive to Hubbard depending on which ramp you go to but very clean, dedicated boat parking and electricity and you have plenty of food options in town. Plus if you wanted to hit Long or Grand, they are just up the street too.

Water should be clear with visibility to 6-8 fow or more. They should be coming up shallow again by then. Lots of patterns will work, sharp breaks into deep water, shallow breaks with grass on them, rock/gravel, sand, etc... if you have a preference for how you fish them, stick with it, you’ll likely catch’em that way.

    Good luck!

There are more crawfish in that lake than I’ve seen in any lake I’ve been on. Literally the shallows are swarming with them. I guarantee you’ll to end up with orange diarrhea on your carpet at some point!
