My 14yo likes to play all of the popular games, but he also loves to play basketball, go fishing and shoot at our back yard range... That being said, he WAS NOT impressed when I interrupted him and his buddies to help me shovel gravel out of the yard and back on the driveway from a hard rain the other day!

I am dealing with this problem now, and there is no real answer, but as my dad always said, keep trying different things. I think the biggest proactive solution is to keep talking to all children. Some learn faster than others.

My kids both have phones. I bought them old iPhone 5Cs because they were cheap. The agreement with both of them was that they answer when we call and we have the ability to turn games on/off. Found an app, not sure the cost, called "OurPact". We set the expectations right away that they would only have access to their games during a certain timeframe and for a specific amount of time. The app gives you the ability to override those limits remotely from your phone too. They get 1 hour a day, from 12-7pm. If they help out a lot around the house, I'll open it up on weekends, especially in winter when the weather is crummy, or on road trips, etc. So far, no problem. But we also keep them busy. Soccer, cub scouts, one plays ice hockey, they both play roller hockey, and one is in the junior fishing club and fishes youth tournaments. For the most part, they have no problem turning games off. The same rules apply to their Nintendo Switch consoles.

I have 2 boys (11,12) and they can play Fornite 2 days a week for 1.5 hours a day for those 2 days. Also they are limited on watching Fortnite YouTube videos also. They get mad but we can tell when they have played it and when they havent just by their attitudes. Also they do not have cell phones because we home school them and they have no need as of now to need one.

We did have an issue this summer with a cell phone during one of the summer baseball games we had. One kid from an apposing team came into our dugout after his game was over (all the kids know each other from the various teams that are in the league) and he had is cell phone. Parents aren't in his life and lives with his grandparents that seldom if at all go to any of his games. Anyway he was in our dugout with his phone and I noticed several kids on the team huddled around him and come to find out he is watching porn on it. Luckily my boys were on base and didn't see any of it. So we had a team rule that only our team was to be in the dugout with absolutely no cell phones.

I know they are convenient and all but if you care about your kids check their phone and history daily.
