    Flooding at Gaston Questions

Hey guys I have only had a place at the lake for a year or so and I heard someone say that it is very possible for the water to come over the tops of the docks. I leave some flowers and table and chairs set up on the dock and may need to tidy up some things. I just have never seen the water above the docks. If anyone has any thought on this matter please let me know.

    Thanks

It goes over the docks from time to time but it is rare. With them predicting so much rain in the westerns parts of the state that flows into Kerr it is a very good chance it may go that high.

It’s a pretty bad state for them to let the water go over the docks but I’ve seen it and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it this weekend or first of the week.

Ok thanks guys. I talked to a friend of mine that lives on the lake and said to expect to go over the docks. They are not going to be able to release alot of water due to the effects down stream.

If it’s like Fran be ready for a mess. They’ll hold Kerr back but there’s still lots of water draining into Gaston

Its gonna be at least as high as post Matthew and perhaps a little more, depending on exact rainfall amounts.

As of this morning predictions are it's going to turn more west and hit SC. Looks like north or Raleigh will not get 8 to 12 inches of rain but likely 3 to 5 inches. Still lots of rain but they lowered the water level to help handle whats coming.

Just remember that Kerr lake level will also effect Gaston, at 2000 today it was at 300.11, normal 299.00 / 300.00. They have been making power everyday as far as I can tell which will cause Gaston elevation to rise some. I work @ North Bend for the contractor that runs the parks for the Army Corps. I thought they might release water into Gaston in preparation for the excess rainfall but I saw no evidence of that today. They are expecting Kerr to rise due to our preparation at work. Remember Kerr was made for and is a flood control lake. For elev check out www.kerrlake.info or call 434-738-6371.

Probably a better chance going over docks next week IF Kerr starts rising fast from rain up north. Now Kerr is at 301 but will take a while for water to come down river

Went out yesterday, they were chomping! With a steady 15/20 mph wind and stronger gust, it was the calmest day on the lake I’ve had in a while LOL! Funny how you can run 3’ chop wide open and on the slickest day with 400 boats you can barely keep it on plane.

I hope to be there next weekend. They should be moving to the backs of the creeks and feeding heavy.
