Loved that lake when I was stationed in Rome 97-2000,, seems like I was only bass fisher there. Compared to soutern bass, these guys were seriously uneducated. Lots of 3 -4 lb smallmouth . Fished off that island 3/4 of the way on western end when sun was low or cloudy. Usually a chug bug on light line and 7 foot rod HEAVING it away from boat.. Sunny I would fish the weed edges with a smoke grub. Seemed like it was just too easy.
I came up there from VA and NC where the bass knew the bass pro shop catalog better than I did.
When wind got up I would put in in rome and run canel towards Utica, quick run at 70 basically put me in water never fished. Lots of fun on that canal topwater.

Heard that about Oneida ....guess it's been like that for a while ...super tough bite .....think lake is changing with the gobies really getting thicker and more concentrated ....or perhaps just a funk between summer and fall.....lets hope the cold rains and cool overnight lows get them chewing

Yah .. just that time of year ... you can mark them all you want but have lock jaw .

Times coming . When it’s time .. you can’t get enough days off from work to go...

It's funny how everyone forgets....a cold summer last year spoiled everyone. She is always fickle as hell in August and early September when theres a guy hot summer

Only a little more than half the field in the Cashion tournament had a limit, 10 out of 43 boats had 0, a few more with just a couple. Top 7 did okay. We're on there on Sunday and I'm not holding my breath.
