That's a wild boat. How fast does that sucker go?

I know next to nothing about jet boats except that people seem to use them on ther
ir "river boats", I assume due to shallow water, floating logs, etc. What's the major advantages, do they have any drawbacks? Never seen one in action.

Advantages: Go where prop boats can't. Best suited for shallow rivers. Some can run in as little as 4"-5" of water.
Disadvantages: Rough water (if the pump ingests air....no thrust) and weeds & leaves (clog the intake and no thrust!)

Correct! I run several shallow rivers with sand and gravel bars, shoals, rocks, trees, etc. These boats will run shallower than they will float. I havent got the perfect set up on this boat yet (still playing with the engine height), but as of right now it will run 52-53 (gps) on good water with a little breeze to create a ripple, loaded with 2 people. It should run in the 55 range when I get done with it.

They do ride like a piece of plywood going across the lake in the rough stuff but the difference from the 17 footer I had last year to this 18 footer that i have now is pretty amazing. The 18 footer will take the rough water A LOT better than the 17 did. I'm not saying its great by no means, but its better. They do not like vegitation, it will clog the intake and cause the unit to lose power. You simply trim the engine up and clean the intake out.

That front deck on the hinge is pretty slick! Wish I would have thought of that when I rebuilt my Starctaft 10 years ago!

Good to see another jet boater on here! I love mine, but your rig is killer Marty! One of these days I will have to bump up to an 1856 or 1860 sized hull and a v6 engine setup.

Don't know for sure. Been running the other boat killing ducks and doing some redfishing. The trolling motor is getting replaced in December for sure. The 12v motor was not cutting it fishing in some current the other day so thats got to go. After that I'll probably wait until spring for anything else.
