Play with the prop plugs some more. You want it to be just below blowout.
Then you could send the tempest to a quality prop guy and get it turned down to run 5,700 at wfo. Then you’ll get all it’s got.

I can’t open your link, says I have to open an account.

I didn’t really come around to Champion until the last 3 years or so, as I’ve aged I learned that not all hulls are created equal. So I tend to forget about the skinny champs, in my mind it’s only the wide bodies; because that’s what I see the most of. But after I wrote that earlier, I started to think about my buddies old 190 and how the holeshot was near instant. I can imagine a 206 with a 225 won’t be a rocket out of the hole, esp with the extra weight in it.

My wide-body 198, with normal load and 2 not small people, takes 3 to 4 secs from idle speed to full-on plane. 2005 Opti...regular, not Pro XS. 26P Tempest Plus..all large hole plugs. 3 3/4 below...

I replaced the two solid plugs with two small, it’s all I had. It did better, I’d say 5-6 seconds to full plane. I’ll keep playing with it. I’m also 3.75 below right now. I might raise it to 3.25 later and see.

I guess it’s fine to drill out the plugs? I have 3 more small.

Just remove 1 of the plugs completely and run it.

Dealer should have a packet with various size plugs...not expensive. Get them and experiment!!! Don't destroy the ones you have....

The solids were tough to remove. Is there a trick? My patience didn’t last long with those. I could see the others being easier to save. I understand on the drilling part.

These plugs are cheapest thing I’ve found for a boat.

Tiny regular tip screwdriver, they can be a pita to get out. I’ve ruined many of them.

What's wrong with drilling them out? When I had a 2.5 liter all plugs were removed. When I switched to a 3.0 it would blow out. I bought 6 solid plugs and drilled them out until it worked to my satisfaction. The 3 extra were in case I went too far.

Nothing wrong with it per say, just a bit challenging sometimes if they start spinning.

FYI, different engine but I get 68 mph (gps) on mine and it jumps on plane pretty quickly although I've never actually timed it. It is a wide-body Champ.

Instead of taking them out the way they went in, push them through. Easier to get them out of the hub with the prop off the shaft though.

4 Blade should improve hole shot. I run a 25p Trophy Plus and love it. I have heard the Fury 4 is better on the bigger Champions as that prop has more lift.

Removed the 1/4 plug and it blew out again. I’ll keep working on that.

Raised the Jack plate to 3.25. Hit 61.5@5450 and still climbing when we ran outta real estate.
