Mercury mechanic help between your house and San Antonio

So I acquired a 223 about three weeks ago as some of you know and I failed to have a leak down test done prior to purchase and yesterday it bit me. It has the Mercury Pro XB and I was wondering who you would recommend between your house and San Antonio of a guy that will do an honest and proper repair but not necessarily the cheapest as I want it done right? It didn't grenade on me, so I hope that saved the heads and block! Let me know if you can recommend someone if you have had the same misfortune as me? Thx crew!

Is Austin area out of your way? I have a guy but he's very particular about new customers.

He's been working on Mercury products, and ONLY Mercury products for 30+yrs. If it isn't black, it doesn't go in his shop. He's by the book and doesn't cut corners on anything. Best I can offer is a way to contact him and see if he's interested in working on your boat. PM if interested.

Don't have first hand experience with this tech but, heard Sandy Creek Marina on Hubbard Creek near Breckenridge has a very good Merc Optimax tech. Comes form a very good friend of mine.

Clarkbird, are you a yami mechanic? Asking because of a post you once answered for me.

Thanks! Just curious. He used to be in Abilene and did some work for me way back and lived only a couple of blocks from me. He works on Mercs and has drag boats. Last time I talked to him he was in Round Rock or Georgetown, but that's been spring of 2001

I'm a shade-tree mechanic on everything I own. Can't see paying someone else to do what I can do, myself. I draw the line at machine work, though.

I’ll send a pm to keep from hi-jacking this thread.
