    Manns Baby 1 Minus Hooks

I picked up some Manns Baby 1 minus for fishing a river close by that has a ton of submerged milfoil. Ive been told to change the hooks on the bait. Anyone have any suggestions on what size to change them out too? #4 short shank Mustad Triple Grips maybe? Thanks in Advance!

#4s might be pretty big on that bait, especially if you're wanting to get it through grass. That's the size KVD Triple Grips I put on my deeper Rapala DTs I use for fishing grass when the stock hooks need replacing. My DT 4 and 6s get size 6. That model hook does very well with grass, though. I'd probably try size 6 if it were me.

Thanks DrewFlu. Ill pick up some #6's and see how the bait reacts and comes through the grass with those. Also, Lets go Mountaineers!

I used #6s, might be able to get away with a 4 on the front, not sure.

    Looking good so far!

I grew up in Fairmont, so I know exactly where you're at! The pool above Morgantown has the best grass around in case that was something you hadn't checked yet.

#4 for the front hook - short shank Gamakatsu roundbend or EWG. #6 for the rear.

Small World. actually fished the uffington pool a few weeks ago. It like the rest of the pools on the river are fishing extremely tough. Everytime I go to the river I tell myself, there is a reason why the elites or classic never came back to the three rivers system lol

Fishing there in general is really tough to be fair, and that river can be especially tough. That's even more true when it's on one of its down cycles. I'm so spoiled now it's crazy - I was actually bummed out when I "only" had 12 lbs this past Saturday. I don't think I ever had a 12 lb bag living in WV. Probably the only place you could realistically expect to do it outside of hitting the spawn perfectly is at Stonewall, and it was still catch and release when I lived there.

unfortunately, it hasn't changed much. They did just open up stonewall to 5 fish limits of any size instead of the slot rule so there will be 20-30 lb bags weighed in there at least until its beat to death. Outside of there I make a lot of trips to Erie, the Potomac, and upper bay, because like you mentioned its tough fishing in this area.

Thanks to everyone that commented advice, I went with #4 mustad triple grip 1x strong 2x short on the front and the #6 mustad triple grip 1x strong 2x short on the back. We ended up winning the tournament sunday and 3 of the fish we weighed in were caught on a manns baby 1 minus with that hook setup on it including the smallmouth in my left hand (stud smallie for the mon river)

Awesome, congrats! That’s a fun lure to fish when the fish won’t hit a topwater and you need a reaction type strike!
