I dont think its a good as it was 25 yrs ago , but its still pretty darn good . Theyve recently dropped the water level WAY down and put in a lot of brush piles and I hear they even built a new island . Theyre trying to create more habitat and make the fishing better . You can do a google search and probably do a lot of reading on the recent renovations of the lake . Im sure someone will chime in that know WAY more than me , I haven't been on that lake in a couple of yrs . Good Luck and welcome home !

I fished there about a month ago.

Fished False River this weekend as we had a family get together all weekend. I only fished about 1.5-2 hours in the mornings and 1-1.5 in the evenings but I will say it was the best bass fishing I have seen at False River in all the years we have been going!

Now granted I didn't fish during the glory years people describe but have been going there about 10 years on the same family weekend trip and this was by far the best. Most of the fish were small but we had fun catching them anyway.

    FYI: All fish were released

Thursday evening: 16 bass 4 - Keeper size biggest 3lbs
Friday morning: 7 bass - 2 keeper size biggest 1.5lbs
    Friday Afternoon: 19 bass - 7 - keeper size biggest 2.5-3lb
Saturday Morning: 15 bass - 3 keeper size biggest 2lbs
Saturday Afternoon: 3 bass zero keeper size (Pleasure boaters made it difficult which was expected)
Sunday Morning: Only 2 fish no keepers

Most fish were caught shallow on the broken rock bulkheads that had deeper water close by. Ones that were very shallow for a few hundred yards were not as effective.

Spinnerbait with no splash against the rocks then slow rolling into deeper water was the ticket for most of the fish.

Trick worms in deeper water caught better fish and even caught quite a few on square bills on Friday evening.

It was complete overcast the days we were there which really helped out I think

No it is fun for a quick trip but I wouldn't fish it to win a trailed tournament or anything like that. Most fish were small but if you want to fish somewhere close to kill a little time or happen to be at false river as long as the boat traffic isn't bad you should be able to catch some fish!

I think the fishing will probably be better in the fall when the bass start chasing shad in shallows!

I can deal with the heat, but that humidity is the killer.I lived in Kansas,Arizona and the best was Gunnison Colorado during the summer at 7500' hardly ever used the AC.And the fishing was very good for lakers,Salmon,Browns, rainbows and yellow perch.
Had to use Downriggers to get the lakers and salmon 60'-90'.

My understanding is that it would have been cost prohibitive to haul out the dredged material...BF

The circuits back in the 70's and 80's used to make us go there. Every time I went there I brought a quart bag of dirt. I figured if they made me go enough one day I may fill it in. That is one place I don't miss going

I scouted there for a week for a tourney back in ‘04.. found some good bulkheads with an early bite, and some good tops I found on my graph to worm later in the day... felt good on what I found.. then the stupid girl I was living with shot me and put me out of commission for a year or so.. shit happens.. NOTHING has ever been the same since..

    love life, it’s not guaranteed..
