    Hummingbird Helix 5 depth issues

I have a helix 5 sonar/GPS unit that works on a lake consistently but inconsistent on saltwater? When heading out in saltwater to drop pots in 70 to 100th of water it works but when back up on plain it goes to 2 or 3ft? Then trolling off shore still 2 to 3ft but down rigger is down 80ft? When out on a big lake reads all the time even up on plain? Any suggestions? Thanks

Do you switch it back and forth from fresh to salt in the setup?

Wow didn't know that. It's in the advance settings for water type and default is fresh water. There is other advance settings I just found too. Thanks for the tip and hope others will read this too.

Got it out on the water last week and having it on saltwater for water type really helped. The only issue now is the variations in depth once in awhile? I had it on narrow beam 8th but maybe I should have it set to 83hz/20th duel beam?

There's wider coverage with the 83khz than the 200khz. How deep was the water?

Some units will automatically switch at 350 ft to 83khz but I'm not sure about that model. I would try 83khz as that should provide better depth performance.
