For what it’s worth I wanted to chime in. I am currently running a 2020 1980 with a 150 ProXS and have approximately 40 hours on it. It is my first aluminum boat and so far I have no regrets purchasing it. I have owned 6 Skeeters, 7 Basscats, 2 Champions, and a Phoenix. I’ve had a couple of boats that would touch 80mph and several that would run in the 70s. My 1980 has been a challenge as far as performance goes mainly because it’s aluminum. When guys talk out speed and performance there are so many variables as most of you know. My 1980 with 3 group 31 agm batteries @80lbs each, 32 gallons of gas, livewell full of water, moderate load of tackle (plastics, jigs, & weights in the rear storage) and 2 guys in the 240lb range runs 50-51mph @ 5800-5900 rpm depending on wind and water conditions. If I’m fishing solo I can run 55-56mph also depending on water and wind conditions. I personally feel that with my setup (23p Tempest Plus & 6” Slidemaster) I’m stretching all the performance out of my 1980 that it has to give. To do a comparison with a 18’ glass bass boat with a 150 on it most that I know of run upper 50s loaded and a few touch low 60s (like a Basscat Saber). With all that said I believe Keith and all the guys at Vexus have done a great job building an aluminum boat that fishes great, performs great in rough water, and runs a decent speed. All boat manufacturers are going to have issues/flaws in manufacturing but not all the other manufacturers handle there warranty issues as well as Vexus. This is all just my 2 cents! Have a great day!

I bet a 175 or 200 would really wake that 1980 up.
