Ya'll come getcha' some of this, (fishing that is)

Just thought I would let everyone know that we have still been hitting the lake. It has been almost unbearable in the heat of the day. So, most trips begin around 3AM in the morning and end closer to 10AM in the morning. Today's heat was supposed to be no different.

At the ramp this morning we found the winds were already moving 8 to 12 mph. (good for the bug situation) The air temps were 78-ish. The lake was very quiet this morning. We found the water to be around 84 to 86 degrees everywhere. The lake is setting very close to 2 feet low. The water clarity is very VERY clear down close to the dam and most of the lower end of the lake. You can see about 24+ inches. The water in the upper reaches is stained but clear. You can see about 10 to 12 inches.

We found the aquatic vegetation to be in a mix of phases. Lilies that were in the water 3 months ago are standing like dead stalks of corn in a field. Places that had submergent vegetation had almost no grass at all covering the bottom. There were areas of lily pads in the water but most were in just a few inches and would not be deep enough to hold a fish through the heat of the day. Then other areas had so much hydrilla in 5 feet of water it was amazing. Sadly most of the areas with big hydrilla grass patches were in shallow water as well.

Today we did not catch anything until the sun started to rise. First fish was on a spinner bait off of a dock. So was the second. Then someone threw a hollow bodied frog up on a steeper shoreline with no cover. Right up on the dirt. (There is a lot of that on the lake these days) And the rest was history. Missed some 10 to 12 blow ups. That is typical for frog fishing though.

We threw flukes, and chuggers, and buzz baits, but they all move a bit too much. They wanted the frog this morning. Twitched very, very, subtle. Right on the dirt. We caught 10 to 15 all total.
First we caught one of these...

Here is the best of them......

We had a few more but I will leave that to your imagination. They did do something I have never had happen. Something undressed my frog. Left him without legs. Probably gar, ar Grennell.

The Sealy Outdoors Hourly tournament coming up fast. The lake seems to be in good shape for the fish catches. But, all should be aware that the stump level is at the point now where you cannot see them, and they are the perfect height to get centered up on top of. Do not run outside of the boat lane except at an idle.
