    2000 21 SS Stratos Extreme

I have a 2000 21 Stratos SS extreme. I have a 2004 Evinrude direct-injection 250. Prop shaft the pad is 3.5. I'm running a razor 26. The holeshot is good. I've only pushed the boat to 5200 RPMs at 53 mph. It has a lot more left . At this time, I am trimmed up and throwing a roostertail that's 15+ ft in the air. I'm reading 12 pounds of water pressure.

Haven't driven Full Throttle yet because I've had two major engine issues this year and im trying to build confidence in this new to me motor.

My old engine was a 2000 200 Evinrude ficht. I ran it at 5.5 Below to pad. Never had a roostertail that was over the cowling.

It seems that this new engine and prop set up needs to be run at less than full trim.

The boat handles well, has good lift, very drivable.

Any suggestions? Thanks for your help.

I had the same boat with a Ficht 225 on a hydro plate,I don’t know which P to P was best now but I ran a Raker 24,performance was very good though. A 15’ tail is way too high, though that might be due to too much trim at lower speeds. You really should open it up to see what the top end performance is before you do any adjustments.

Yes, I know I should open it up, but right now I'm still a little hesitant. After blowing two engines in four weeks, I'm somewhat reserved right now

Until you let it go WFO you don’t know what you’ve got.
Until that day comes don’t worry about it.

12Lbs pressure isn't good, I'd try more prop to start. Run more rpms at lower trim and watch the pressure. 3.5" is a decent height to start at.

I don't like 12 pounds either, but it was 12 pounds before I change the water pump and also 12 pounds after I change the water pump.

12 lbs at less than WOT doesn't mean anything but the rooster tail at 15' sounds like it's set too high. Make sure your measuring from the bottom of the pad not the stem on the ransom.

When you say set too high, do you mean the trim or do you mean the prop shaft to pad?

Right now the prop shaft to pad is between 3 and 1/4 and 3 and 1/2 from the pad of the boat, not the step.

Was able to run the boat yesterday. I ran It Wide Open. I trimmed up about approximately three quarters. Roostertail was just below the cowling. I hit 62 miles per hour, but the RPMs are already at 6000 so I pulled back.
    Looking for suggestions?

Check your tach. It doesn't jive with your speed.

I had a check no longer than a year ago. I think it's fine,

That's over 20% prop slip if it's correct. I would highly suggest you let a seasoned set of eyes run your rig.

It's not like it's the first time I'm driving this boat, I've owned it for 12 years. Just got a new motor this summer

Internet diagnostics is sketchy at best. That prop turning six grand should be over 75 mph.

Something isn’t right and try as we might it’s not possible to see what you’ve got.

So rather than bantering on a Internet forum find someone with their clue ticket punched to see what’s going on. Maybe someone here is close enough to lend a hand.

Thinking about this a little more, when I had the tachometer checked, it was with the old engine using the Evinrude diagnostic. I'll see if I can check this new engine

I will add that the speed was climbing, I just was getting nervous with the engine hitting 6000 RPMs

That motor has a rev limiter built in, pretty sure it won't let itself grenade from rpms.

LOL, I definitely know that, guess I'm still gun shy
