    24 Oz Carpet

Beginning the research to replace my carpet. 2002 XZ225. Will the Bass Cat 24 ounce carpet allow the lids to close and open without issue. I’m thinking it might be too tight.

What replacement carpet has everyone used in their Bug?

Use 20 oz so the lids close correctly, then put padding under the carpet where you stand. You can pad the top of the compartments as well. You'll be able to close the compartments but have extra cushioning.

there should be enough gap to install the 24oz.
    add the padding for sure

You can also "shave" the edges of the lid. Places like bed bath and beyond sell a "shaver" that removes pills from sweaters and such. It will neatly trim the thickness down if you have issues closing.

Use the basscat 24 oz carpet. I've carpeted 6 boats now with it including 3 skeeters. Very high quality.

I’ve used Bass Cat and it was good. Bought Ranger last time.
Ranger went to 24 oz several years ago. Really like it, we’ll see how it holds up.

The biggest mistake I've made lately was to recarpet with the 24oz. Bass Cat carpet. It's great stuff but I've had lid problems since doing it. Certainly would not do it again.

In 2022 actually moved production of Premium and Advantage series models to a custom made 28 ounce carpeting. The Storm and Ash colors are both available In the new 28 ounce variety.

We still have 24 ounce also if that’s your preference, and we have 16 ounce as well for the budget crew.

I just recarpeted a fx20 with 24oz syntec platinum 2 and padding on all the compartment lids, deck, cockpit etc. no closure issues with the 24oz that i noticed plus it looks great, you can see it in my post in the Ky section
