    25HP outboard?

Who makes the best 2 stroke 25 hp now?? I live in Illinois and we have mostly small restricted lakes. I'm wanting to build a 17-18 ft Jon into a bassin rig. Want the baddest 25 out to get up on pad.....would love to do this to an 18', but have doubts about getting on pad. 120 lbs difference in 17-18' trackers. E-tec, tohatsu, Suzuki???? Any input is appreciated.

Does tohatsu and Suzuki even make a smaller 2 stroke these days? My buddy has a 30 etec on his 17’ tracker and likes it!

Tohatsu and Suzuki are four strokes...The only new small 2 stroke engines I know of are Evinrude..

Find you a lightly used 3 cylinder Yamaha. With a little work they claim you can get 40 hp out of them.

Tohatsu makes Mercury and maybe a few other brands under 25hp. Like mentioned above, they have gone to 4 strokes now though.

Do yourself a favor and purchase the Suzuki 25 hp 4 stroke EFI motor.

FYI - I have a '93 Yamaha 25 hp 2 cylinder, on a G3 1756, that I've added storage and rod lockers to. 3 batteries, 6 gallon tank. GPS 22mph with me (175#), 20mph with a 2cnd person and their gear. Boat, engine, trailer, full load scales around 1800#. No pt/t.
As mentioned above, only one or two 2 stroke brands you can buy new.
Might be better off with a mid '90's Yamaha or Suzuki.

There’s no more 2 stroke 25 being made...

Can't help on the 2-stroke, but was amazed at the speed my brother's old 14' Starcraft V does with a 25hp Suzuki. I clocked him at mid-30's going up a good running river...never thought it could be that fast.

    Tohatsu mega 25, yamaha 25 3 cylinder, or a suzuki 25 3 cylinder.
nine of which are new anymore. These are the fastest 25 ever built

Thanks guys.... I've got some research to do. I'm a welder, and have been wanting to build this for years. Just not sure if a 25 will get a decked out 18' Jon up. I don't want to push water.

I had an older 80 model Evenrude 25 hp 2 stroke. Best motor I’ve ever had. Always cranked 2nd pull. Pull the gas line loose while it’s still on trailer and let the carb run dry. Years and years of no worry. Maybe change plugs sometime.

Dad has an 1860 tracker will nothing in it and it will plan out in the river with an old 25hp rude but we made a jack plate for it, i think that if we had a bigger deck in the front to add nose weight it would come out of the hole a little better

All new ones are 4 stroke except Evinrude. Get ready for sticker shock if looking for a used one,I'm putting together a 16ft. winter walleye boat.

I had a Yamaha 30 HP 3 cylinder. It was a great running motor. I am sure the 25 HP 3 cylinder would also be good. Johnson also made a 3 cylinder 25 HP that was stout also.

At Coffeen and Newton, the old Suzuki 3 cylinder 2-strokes are the top dogs. In a 17 ft Nova, we generally run around 22-23 mph with 2 people and 25 mph when alone. I see them on everything from 16ft john boats to new-ish Rangers.

Find a 1986 evinrude. Put a 35hp carb and intake on it. It will push that 18’ Jon no problem.

Older Suzuki 3 cylinder if you can find one. Otherwise ETEC all the way.

I have an 85 25hp Evinrude. Very simple, very reliable. I'd trade it in a heartbeat for a new 4 stroke of any brand. Yes the 4 stroke is going to be heavier and slower, but easier to start and maintain.

Biggest and baddest would be the tohatsu mega 25... with mods it’s a 50hp. I know someone with one on a triton Jon all decked out running upper 30’s, with 2 people and a tourney load. I would put the Yamaha or zuke 3 cylinder a close second but my first choice would be the tohatsu. Any of these motors modded out will push a tin boat pretty well. There is a fully built mega 25 on Indianapolis craigslist right now for 4500$... they don’t come cheap.
