    Angry Ceiling fans

are suppose to be easy to install--according to the instructions on the box. NOT TRUE!!!!

When the step by step instructions leave a couple of steps out it can be a pain in the a$$. Took 4 hours and much discussion between the wife and I to figure out why it would not hang right. It will be the last fan I install. Next one will be hired out.

I usually watch YouTube for a while before tackling home projects - usually helps with poor instruction manuals

Sometimes it's easier to pay for installing and less heartburn

I normally install them myself, but replacing one in our living room now. Had to hire someone to install this one due to 22ft ceilings. I don't have anything to get that high. Worth $150 to have someone else worry with it.

I remember the first time I hung my own ceiling fan... not a good memory!

I replaced 3 a few weeks ago on my screened porch all in about an hour. Now that you know what you're doing, the next one will be much easier

You needed to use more profanity!

I find I have less trouble installing Hunter than Harbor Breeze. Quieter and easier to balance. I like their ball and yoke design. One thing I think often gets overlooked on a first time fan installation is whether the electrical box is anchored adequately to the ceiling joists.

I don't think a 16ft ladder would work would it? As someone who hates heights, no way I'd be perched on a 16ft ladder. Scaffolding, yeah, but no way on the ladder. And this is why it's taken me forever to find someone to install it. Very few have the necessary equipment to get up to a fan that high.

Those can be tricky. I have one that is kinda high. I set up 2 saw horses and put my 6' step ladder on top of them so that I can clean it. Wife doesn't like me doing that.

Hell, I just want to clean the dead bugs out of the glass. But me and heights do not get along, will have to figure something else out.

Thats why we went with one that has the lights with the downward facing, open globes. Makes it easy to change the bulbs with an extension.

I have installed 6-7 fans over the years. When we extended the house out over the deck I was going to install the fan. My friend
( union Electrician ) said " I'll take care of it when i wire and install all the can lights" When he wired everything, he installed a bracket on a joist that i had never seen before. After the ceiling was closed in it took him 15 min. to wire and hang the fan. I havent hung a fan in 20 years, whatever that bracket was made it very simple.
