Ultrex heading sensor on FX21

Where is the best spot to put this unit on the FX21??

Mine is on the Starboard rear gunwale.

I don't know about "best", but I have seen a lot of guys mounting them on the forward most portion of the front deck. Some have even mounted on the fiberglass portion of the bow. I am getting ready to mount mine and plan to mount it on bow deck as my Point 1 will be mounted on the starboard gunwale.

Only problem I see mounting on the front point of the bow is that you're eliminating a stepping point if you want to raise the trolling motor. Has anyone mounted inside the centre storage locker with good results?

I researched the entire gambit of mounting a magnetic heading sensor below deck. If your Skeeter has aluminum lids like mine, it won't work.

Mounted mine on the left of the ultrex foot pedal up front on the carpet. That's in a 2015 zx250. Looks great, not in the way and works perfect.

I Never used the cup holder, so put it there.

Using that cup holder area saves you from drilling into the deck. If you have a raised graph bracket over the TM petal, I've seen some guys bolt on a flat piece of plastic/alumimum to the underside of that bracket.

Mounted mine in the rear of boat on one of the removable lids next to bilge access.. Ran power directly from master
switch and neg to battery.

Guys look at where Skeeter mounts them from the factory.....Same place I did. Why make it more difficult??

There not installed at the factory. The dealer rigs them out. So dealer preference. Mine was installed on the gunwale rear starboard.

Why would you mount it on the rear of the boat? You want it as close to the trolling motor as possible otherwise it’s going to move you the length of the boat when you spot lock. Am I missing something?
