    water leak

Put in new T'stats. Started the motor with ear muffs on and waited for motor to come up to temp. Temp came up good and water pressure good. But, found this leak at the bottom block port side. How big of a problem is this. It is spraying onto recirc line coming from out of the block seam, from right to left.

Does this need to be addressed immediatly or can I go fishing tomorrow?

    Savage,

Thanks for the reply. Is that a yes go fishing or yes address immediately. My guess is this has been going on for some time.

I tightened up the nut below that about 1 full turn but the leak is still there. Is there a gasket or something there that needs replaced? What kind of leak is this? It appears to be more than I want to take on.

Soda I was able to buy the lifting eye and the gasket from Don and borrow a hoist from work. My 250 Pro XS was not nearly as bad as I expected.

So If I take this motor into a certified merc dealer and have this work done...Could it possibly open up a entirely new set of problems once they get it opened up? I know this could happen anytime you take apart a motor but, based on the age and hours of this unit is there a good chance to have additional problems? I dont want to spend a grand trying to get this repaired only to be told it needs another 2 grand for newly found items.

What happens if I keep running this engine like this? I have a feeling it has been doing this for the last 25 hours i have put on it.

I purchased this boat with 499 hours on it last July, and have put 2 water pumps on it, replaced the plugs and put thermostats in it.

That leak doesn't look new to me judging from the corrosion. It also looks from the photo that that particular nut wasn't tightened all the way and may have caused the leak.
I know that's just a guess, we're all photo experts here.

We're pretty deep in this topic already but a reminder you need to post engine serial number every time you start a new thread. I pulled this from a previous post "04 225 optimax ser# 0T848170".

The pros don't have time to search threads for serial numbers or try to remember what engine you have, so please help them help you.

This issue is probably the cause of this issue you had (and probably still have).

Thanks for the reminder...I thought I had posted that info but clearly forgot. Thanks for putting it up as well.

    06 SB,

You may be correct. I went to check the t'stats and there were none in place. So once I added the T'stats my at idle water pressure came right up to 2 psi or a little higher. My Operating temps now came up into the 120's as well. Then I noticed the leak. I tightened up nut one full turn and it did not stop the leak. I think its been leaking since I purchased it a year ago. I am dropping off to my local marina for repair next week. Hopefully it won't be too bad.

My concern is that If I have put 25 hours on this motor with this leak, what damage could have occurred?

Thanks guys for all your help and patience.
