Bass Pro XPS iT 555 Battery Charger fix question

One of the + leads on my 3 bank charger broke off at the terminal end under the heat shrink. All 3 banks have 20A inline fuses. Can I just strip the broken +lead wire and re-crimp a new terminal end on it? I read somewhere here that imbedded in battery charger wires is a temp sensor.

I've never heard of the "temp sensor". Normally I would say yes to replacing the end. I would call Bass Pro and ask them for sure.

Most chargers have a temp sensor somewhere. It’s needed because charging voltage requirements change with battery temperature. If the sensor is damaged or missing, the charger probably won’t charge.

Thanks CatFan. I'm guessing that would be a "No" for striping and re-crimping a new terminal end on it?

Cut the heat shrink off and see what is there.

I was under the impression that the temp sensor was internal, not built into the wire. I could be wrong tho,

What you got to lose? non functional as it is, cut away the shrink wrap and give it a try.

I believe Pro Mariner builds that charger. Call them. They have a decent tech department.

The temp sensor is located on each positive lead, close to the battery. That way it can monitor each individual battery.

Update: Considered everyone's advice and cut the + lead as close to the terminal end as possible (there's only about four inches of wire before the inline fuse). Took a close look at the wire and it was just regular multi-stranded wire and no extra lead for a sensor. Re-crimped a terminal end with heat shrink, reconnected to battery, and plugged her in. So far so good, but monitoring closely. Thanks to all who responded. By the way, the tech dept. at Pro Mariner closed before I had a chance to call them. Couldn't wait till Monday since I NEED to go fishin' tomorrow!
