Has anyone tried mounting a 31 like a 30....turned and facing down....and got the same view that a 30 would give?
And conversely, a 30 turned and angled like a typical 31 and got the 31 view?
these transducers seem almost identical other than what the software tells the head unit
It doesn't work. They may be near identically constructed. I doubt if we'll ever know. But they only work with matching software. The software is programmed to the transducer and expected mounting orientation. That's part of it calculating the distance and depth of the fish. It will screw with your brain using LiveVu Forward software with a LiveVu Forward transducer mounted to point down and then having to interpolate left and right. But, if you do it, post us some pics.
