    Protecting boat while docked?

What fenders would you recommend for protecting a 520 while docked over night? We'll be staying at a cottage for a week and I'll be leaving the boat in the water at a wooden dock. I intend on using a few dock lines to hold the boat in position (like an x) however I only have a couple cheap bumpers and my aqualu hard plastic fenders I use during tournaments. I appreciate any advice you can offer.

Those are the aqualu ones I have, they are good for short stays at the dock, but overnight I wouldn't trust them. I'm wondering what style of conventional bumper is best, I'll have the time to rig them up since I'll be there for a while.

When I vacationed and rented a slip I used Taylor Made Low Freeboard fenders and have installed Perko fender locks (pn 1299dp0chr) on the inside of the gunnel. I also used bungee cords with plastic hooks at all four corners to center the boat in the slip. The suction cup fenders do not stay in place and are too light. I did that on Bull Shoals for 15 years of vacations and never had a problem.

I would look for something like this:

Then tie spring lines. Take a rope and tie it from the front of your boat to the rear dock cleat. Then tie a rope from the back of your boat to the front dock cleat. This will form an X and prevent the boat from moving forward and backwards. If you can find something like the above link, that will keep it from moving in and out from the dock.

The low profile fenders made for bassboats work great. I have not had luck with the suction cup fenders.

Thanks, I think I have a couple of the low pro fenders from my last boat still kicking around.

I use the suction cup fenders for short stays as they are small and I trust them to stay stuck for a little while. For overnight docking, I bought some cheap bass boat style foam fenders from Bass Pro. They stick out enough to keep the boat safe overnight as long as you're not on the main channel with lots of traffic.

I use the airhead bungee dock lines. 2 on each side (4 corners). Kinda holds it in middle of stall. I add a few bumpers just to be safe.

I use regular sized bumpers and then tighten the dock lines to hold the boat snug.

I think these with spring lines would do the trick.

I used the Taylor made boat fenders when I docked my boat fora week in a camp in Ny. I purchased the extra large ones that are normally for the cabin crusiers.
My better half made slip on covers from towels. Just slip them over the side. worked well no damage or scratches.

Any chances you could post a pic with the slip covers?
