    Right prop? Nitro Z-7

I posted in Nitro section too...no responses yet

    My Setup:
2010 Z-7 150 Optimax, hull reworked after hook discovered was 48-52 mph gps.

    Current GPS Speed 55.9
    RPM 5,200
    Current P2P 3.25"
    Prop: 23P tempest plus
    Prop Slip 7.702%
    Water Temp 87+
Air Temp high 80's and humid
3 batteries, 1 PP, passenger console removed.
    I'm 205 lb
    1/2 tank of gas

I have a 24p tempest plus as a spare prop, I don't believe that prop will help with speed or RPM.

Should I look into a getting a 22p prop, or should I get the 23p prop worked?

    Thanks
    Kyle

Try a 21p or 22p tempest. Also try running at 2.75 or 3".

Something seems off here. You should be able to spin that Tempest faster than 5200 rpm. Have you had your motor looked over? Throttle opening all the way? Compression good? Had an issue when I bought my first boat that the throttle wasn't opening fully and didn't give me full power.

Yes I have had the motor gone through, I had some repairs and had a new lower unit installed recently, everything seems to function just fine. I have read that if the pitch is too high on the prop than the RPM's will suffer. For the Optimax, 5,200 rpm is right at the low end of max RPM range.

Your speed seems about right, maybe a little low but not by much, but your RPMs seem low. Your tach could be off a little. How is the holeshot? A 22p in the same prop is going to give you about 200 more RPM roughly.

Hole shot is good, I haven't timed it, but it breaks plane pretty quickly. I just redistributed some weight to the rear compartments (jigs, soft plastics) and raised the jack plate .25" and got 56.2 mph. If a 22p won't help that much, I'll just stay with what I got and play with jack plate and trim and may get the 23p prop cleaned up, it's got some dings. Water and air temps decreasing as well so that's on my side.
