Listen to the Dealer.
If it weren't such an important part, I. E. kaboom if it doesn't work, I would replace the o-ring too. It is a risk.
There is an o ring behind that cylindrical piece still on that pump. Careful when u pull that out. Like Savage states, I would just bite the bullet and get a new pump.
