    Procraft 185 jackplate question

I知 still confused I guess... I just bought a 2001 185 procraft and i was given a manual 12 in jackplate for free. But I知 still confused on the whole transom discussions I致e been reading about... so I guess my question is will it be ok if I go through with mounting this jackplate? Thanks for the info I知 sorry if I posted this in the wrong thread

Thinking a 12" plate would be too far for a 18' boat. Personally I would trade it for a 4"-6" plate.

Two points to a jackplate. Be able to adjust prop hight and move the motor back in wake of the boat. A boat pushes the water down and when it passes the water rises again creating a hump of water behind the boat. Some hulls that are designed to motors above the pad need that set back to get the motor in that hump a procraft isn't one of those.

Get a 6" plate and sell the 12" it's too much plate for that boat. Your gear shift cables and your steering cables if that's what you have will probably be too short if you try to use the 12".
