Question about 201 w/ 200 HP intruder speed

My buddy has a 1993 Stratos 201 with a same year Evinrude 200XP running a shooter prop, no jackplate and swears he can run 71 mph. Ive not seen it and have no clue what rpm he is turning. I highly doubt his stated speed. My question is can this boat with this set up possible do this kind of speed? Got a diet mountain dew riding on this. LOL

Its Unlikely, ask him if its GPS or speedo? Cool weather or hot weather? how much fuel, livewells, partner etc.

Speed from a cell phone app, most likely half a tank of fuel, 1/3 water in livewell, one person @ 175 lbs, 3 batteries and moderate amount of gear in boat. He tells me year around speed. He has no idea what rpm he's turning, ppt or what pitch his prop is.

Not saying it can’t be done, but the shooter prop and only a 200 on a 201 is definitely a red flag and highly doubtful..

Gotta find out the pitch of the prop. That will be the indicator but to me that sounds a bit fast with a 200

I know its an apple and oranges comparison, but the fastest I've seen so far on my 94 201 with a 2.5L Mercury 200, 8 inch jack plate and 24 Tempest+ is 67.1 mph (Lowrance helm mounted GPS). I think 70 might be in the realm of possibility, but I wouldn't take a phone app's word for it.
