    Lowrance Micro SD card issue

I bought a SanDisk 64gb micro SD card for logging sonar. When I try to '"log Sonar" with the card installed, the unit only gives me the option to save to internal memory. Do I need to format the SD card in order for the Carbon to read/recognize the 64gb micro card? I have a Navionics card as well and the Carbon reads that just fine.

HDS-series does not accept memorycards of more then 32GB. Get the correct size and format it to FAT32, then retry.

Thanks for the info. Probably says that right in the owners manual, that I did not completely read through!

You can format a 64GB card to Fat32 and it will work. all cards over 32GB come formatted in the NTFS file format. It's not how big the card is it's the file format that makes the differences

I would not recommend that at all. Stick to 32GB and FAT32. (Btw, I have never seen a card of 32GB or less formated to anything else then FAT32. Larger cards then 32GB often have another format.)

You need to sharpen your reading-skills.
I have used memorycards up to 128GB, which can be done due to changing the format. But recommending someone who has to ask on a forum what cardsize they need to start playing around with larger sizes then officially recommended and changing formats to other formats then recommended, is most likely going to give that person more problems then answers.

So stick with 32GB/ FAT32 and live happily ever after.

I was having the same problem. Decided, I wanted to do the C-Map mapping so got a 128 gig SD card. So I chatted online with someone from Lowrance. Here is the transcript. Hope you can read it. It shows that Team Colibri is correct.

The best reason for not exceeding 32GB I ever heard was one of functionality... That much data becomes really, really, cumbersome when you start having to up/down load anything that large. Sometimes it don't matter if you can or can't and becomes a matter of if you should.
