With the Rod Geeks blank I use both 50lb braid and 17lb flouro depending on whether I'm ripping through weeds or open cover. Either is fine.

It's awesome... Much lighter and has no bulky feel or handling like the bigger diameter glass/blend rods. I made my second cast with it yesterday and caught a 2lber too. I need to spend a day with it in my hand to really give it an honest opinion.

mike, i built a rainshadow revelation ( not e glass) 7' crankbait blank that i use for a topwater rod, and it is fantastic. flexes like a glass blank and is plenty light...im fixing to build a hydra 7'6" crankbait blank also.
I have several rainshadow revelation blank rods...
