Thank you Seven Lakes Marine Services- 300xs ready to go

Met Jeff, Dan, and Jenn this morning to run the new motor and get at least and hour on it for the first part of the break in process. Dan refused to let the boat go until he was completely satisfied that everything was good to go. Jeff and I got the first hour on it and it ran great. Had one chance on the way back to give it a little. The holeshot wasn’t great as it just vented too much with two holes wide open but it sure got to 82 quick. Thanks again Seven Lakes.

That’s great Jay! I know it’s break in time, but what prop are you using?

I had a 26 TXP OT4 just to get to the 4000-5000 with no trim. It blew out pretty bad but it accelerated great. Jeff let me take home a 27 OT4 and am planning on going back up to test a 30 Bravo xs and a 30 ProMax.

I was surprised that the Merc manual said after the first hour wot was ok in short bursts.

According to the manual and instructions attached to the motor the break in is only 1 hour between 4000-5400 rpm. After the first hour, no restrictions on rpm or WOT. Only requirement is change rpm within 10 minutes. Won’t be that boring.

I figured you’d use the lower pitch to get the rpm’s. Best thing to do.

The 82mph was during a pretty windy choppy type of day too. I was surprised how hard it vented where it pulled hard right until she slipped so next time out I’ll plug all four holes and do the same with the 27.

Anyone have any solid PVS plugs I can buy. Lol

In a pinch you can use silicone to fill the hole in S,M or L plugs, I've done it a few times and it worked great. Never lost any silicone either, actually still running one plug like that in my trophy.

I’ve done that before John but just never on wide open holes. I plan on using duct tape to test and then once I get results can then use the plugs.

My 2016 took4 hours by the manual first was at 3500 to 4000 rims, then varied the rims after that as long as it was above 3500 rpms

That was what I was anticipating. I believe it’s gonna run double oil until the 10 hour mark. I was researching break in on the Merc website and Dons info from European Marine and then when I got the the marina this morning the paperwork and motor decal both said the same...1 hour between 4000-5600 and then anything after so long as it’s in short bursts and no long runs at constant rpm.

My 2018 250 pro xs basically said keep the trim tucked and vary the rpm’s every few minutes. The biggest thing I saw that it specified was no more than 5 minutes idle time in the first hour.

Congrats Jay!!! I’d be willing to bet you never even think of that x again!!!
