    Vertical Spooning & Drop Shotting

Vertical Spooning and dropshotting still working on Bull. Mostly Spots, but a few LMB and SMB. Here’s one Spot caught on a drop shot w/Roboworm in 40 ft of water.

Went out this morning to locate some more Spots. Found some holding on a channel swing at 20’ to 30’ depth in 35’ to 90’ of water. Spoons and drop shots with Roboworms got us 7 keeper football Spots and one keeper LMB somewhere around 3.5#. Caught a few short fish and one huge Pumpkinseed. Not a single SMB. Here’s a pic of Gene Merrick with his 3rd keeper Spot. It got hot around 10:00 and we left early.

What's your favorite Roboworm? (That is, if it is not a secret).

I think it’s called a Red Crawler Jeff. 4 - 5” in length (3 yr old worms, not sure of size/color). When that doesn’t work I use some KVD Cream Shot worms (Ghost Shad, Dirt, etc.).

I grew up in MI and iced fished every winter. Yes, spooning it’s very similat to techniques used for ice fishing. But, we would also occasionally use those cheap little rigs with the flag that would pop up when we had a fish on. Lazy boy’s ice fishing.

    That was a great movie.

Fishing shack with generator, TV, outdoor antennae, auger to cut hole in ice, six pack in the cooler. All the conveniences of home! Not the way we ice fished, but that’s the way to go!

All ice fishing has alcohol involved. Watching them all walk back late in the day and try to stay upright was some spectator fun.
